LEREN IN DE ÉCHTE WERELD
Er zijn soms kinderen op school die niet zo lekker in hun vel zitten. Ze hebben faalangst of weinig zelfvertrouwen. En dat is natuurlijk jammer, want vaak zit er veel meer in zo’n jongen of meisje dan er uit komt. Voor zulke kinderen van OOZ-scholen die wat extra’s nodig hebben is er Playing for Success, een naschools programma voor kinderen van 9 tot 14 jaar. Centrummanager Harold van Bremen is vanuit OOZ betrokken bij het programma en laat ons een dag meekijken.

‘Er komen hier kinderen die haast onzichtbaar zijn in de klas. Waarvan de juf of meester achteraf denkt: was die eigenlijk wel op school vandaag? Die kinderen leren hier op speelse wijze weer hun mannetje staan’, legt Harold uit.
‘Leren met een WOW-factor’, noemen ze dat bij Playing for Success. Dat begint al bij de gave locatie: het voetbalstadion van PEC Zwolle. Al elf jaar lang melden iedere dinsdag-, woensdag- en donderdagmiddag ongeveer vijftien kinderen van verschillende basisscholen in Zwolle zich hier.
Iedere twaalf weken start een nieuwe groep. Ze doen allerlei verschillende opdrachten. Zo bedenken ze een eigen artikel voor in de fanshop van PEC Zwolle en ontwierp een groepje kinderen samen met een architectenbureau een speelplein. Het voorstel hiervoor ligt nu zelfs echt bij de gemeente. Met zulke spannende opdrachten doen de kinderen positieve ervaringen op. Hun motivatie en zelfvertrouwen groeit.
Aan het eind van de twaalf weken houden de kinderen een eindpresentatie in de persruimte voor hun ouders, opa’s en oma’s, meesters en juffen. Dit lijkt de meeste kinderen van te voren heel eng en spannend. ‘Wij zeggen dan: het is inderdaad spannend, maar je kunt hier niets verkeerd doen,’ vertelt Harold. ‘De meesten doen het uiteindelijk dan toch!’
